Amsoil specialize in selling high-performance, synthetic, motor oil for cars, trucks, powerboats, monster trucks, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. But how good are their products, and do they live up to the hype?
Amsoil Products – The Good Bits
Well, first it should be said that Amsoil has been around since 1972, and so it must be doing something right! They have sponsorship deals with many top class motorsport events, teams, and drivers, and this shows that they are well respected in the industry. Nobody wants to be sponsored by a dud product, do they?
Amsoil also performs well in industry tests, and has been proven to compare favorably with other leading motor oil producers.
Amsoil Products – The Bad Bits
So, if the Amsoil products really are that good, why do so many people struggle to sell them? And why do so many distributors end up failing?
The reason is because too many people are stuck in the past when it comes to selling their products. Amsoil is a network marketing business which means that the products are sold through a network of independent dealers, and not in shops or from a dedicated website. Traditionally, network marketers have always been encouraged to use what we call "warm marketing" techniques.
This means focusing on your friends and family, giving presentations, handing out business cards, offering free samples and demonstrations, and cold-calling potential leads. These techniques might have worked in the last century, if you were trying to sell cosmetics for example, but they are not going to work in the 21 st century for Amsoil.
The reason is that the Amsoil products are specialist products. Although everyone needs engine oil, most people will be quite happy to buy a cheap option from the shops. Most people do not need high performance oil, and could do without the expense. If you spend all your time and money trying to persuade your friends and family that they need Amsoil, you will lose money like most other Amsoil dealers who are doing the same thing.
What you need to do is identify your "target market". People who race motorbikes at the weekends, for example. People who drive expensive sports cars. Transport and haulage firms who need to take care of their fleet. Enthusiasts who care about their car more than others and are willing to take a little more care of it.
These are the people you should be trying to sell to. Not only are they targeted leads (because you know they could benefit from using Amsoil), but they will probably already be buying similar products regularly, meaning that they are ready to part with their cash.
The only thing you need to learn how to do is find these people. If you can learn how to find people who are desperate to buy a high-quality motor oil, then you will soon realize that the products start selling themselves, and you start making a fortune!
